Moose Ponds in GTNP

The Moose Ponds trail runs south of Jenny Lake to a couple of small ponds that I visited in hopes there would be moose around. I wasn’t disappointed — a cow and her calf were there. The calf disappeared in a shady spot to nap while mom munched away at vegetation on the bottom of the pond for thee hour plus that I watched.

A view of Jenny Lake on way to Moose Ponds

Cow in the water

Calf up in the trees

I saw this bald eagle coming in from the upper left apparently interested in the duck that was swimming around the moose.

He missed. The eagle then flew around and sat in a tree, the duck squawking the entire time, until the eagle decided to try elsewhere.

The trail from the pond and back to Jenny wasn’t all that great. I think just going to the pond and then back to Jenny is the best plan.

View of the second pond from the trail. There was no view due to shoulder high weeds.

The trail continue through open areas and trees.

There was a little stream

I had heard the roar of rushing water the whole time and finally saw where it was coming from up in the mountains.
