Blue Lake Trail

I hiked Blue Lake in early September after the Labor Day mobs had gone back to work. The 1050 feet of elevation gain are on a very gradual trail so it was no big deal. Lovely little glacial tarn. I had hoped to see mountain goats but didn’t have any luck.

Kayaking Diablo Lake

Getting a kayak out on Diablo Lake is a gorgeous paddle. You have to bring your own boat since there are no rentals on the lake. You also need to be cautious of the wind since the lake often gets very windy in the afternoon.

Ross Dam Trail

I hiked Ross Dam Trail to see both Ross Lake Resort and the dam itself. For someone who is afraid a height, looking down the Diablo side made my stomach lurch. An impressive dam with great views.

Cutthroat Lake Trail

Bumped into friends from Acadia and hiked to Cutthroat Lake on a beautiful, but warm day in early August. On the way back we stopped at Washington Pass Overlook to see the spectacular views. Views from Washington Pass Overlook on Highway 20

Lamar Valley

Not a lot of pictures, but I had a great morning in Lamar Valley. I enjoyed wildlife viewing through my new binoculars and scopes that others were kind enough to let me peak through, instead of through the camera lens. Started off with a very careful, tentative group of elk cows that were moving through […]

Yellowstone Update

Been working a lot of hours and finally got a day off. Memorial Day was overcast and rainy, but still was able to see some things around Yellowstone Lake. Seems like when I have free time it’s cloudy and raining. Campsite at Lake Employee RV Campground when I arrived on May 5th Yellowstone Lake thawing […]

Journey to Yellowstone

The first two days on the road from Oregon to Yellowstone were a breeze. Well, other than not having a clue where I was going in Yellowstone, what the road conditions and weather would be like. The planner and organizer in me was stressing about those issues. Terrain on the eastern side or Oregon was […]

Painting Travel Trailer Cabinets and Trim

I had wanted to brighten up my travel trailer by painting all the dark wood a lighter off-white color, but have to admit I found it a daunting task to contemplate. Since I’m a full-time RVer, how was I going to paint it while I’m living, cooking, sleeping in the space? I completed this project […]

Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge

I’m spending the winter six months at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge volunteering so I wanted to post some pictures of the refuge. I have deer, coyotes, and birds for neighbors. A northern flicker crashed into my trailer one day. A beautiful bird, but no picture because I was so upset it had knocked itself […]

Thomas Elton Tape Transcription – Tape 1 Side 1

Childhood through Great Depression (approx 1896 to 1932) Preface: My grandfather and grandmother homesteaded in North Dakota in the early 1900’s. I adored my grandma and grandpa. Grandpa was born in 1888 and grandma in 1893. Unfortunately grandma died when I was 5 years old, but grandpa lived to be 97. By 1980 he was […]

Flagstaff Travel Trailer Floor Replacement

Since the floor softening issue is so common I wanted to write about my experience getting the floor replaced in my 2017 Flagstaff Micro Lite 25BHS. My apologies for the length. Realizing there was a problem For about 3 years everything sounded fine when I walked around. Then when I stepped certain places the cabinets […]

Flagstaff Travel Trailer Fresh Water Tank Support

There’s an easy solution to the poorly supported fresh water tanks put on so many travel trailers. When the factory has a note in the manual that the trailer should never be moved with water in the tank, they know how puny the support it. I had only filled my water tank one time and […]

Flagstaff Broken Couch Frame Repair

I was aware the back left seat corner of the couch in my travel trailer was broken almost from the time I got it. It was on my list when I went back to the dealer for warranty work. I should have known I was in trouble when they said they’d have to check with […]

Flagstaff TT Murphy Bed Repair

I read about various problems with the Murphy beds in Forest River travel trailers. The aluminum frame that supports the bed seems to be alright, but after 5 years of constant use the piano hinge connecting it to cabinet unit was separating on the left side. It started out small and gradually grew to over […]

Cleaning Stainless Steel Coffee Mug

A little over a year ago I purchased a Mukoko 20 oz Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Mug. I like a big cup of coffee in the morning and I have to admit I love this mug. I had grown tired of my coffee getting cold and this mug keeps it warm a long time even […]

The Year of COVID-19

It was a year of isolation, but also injuries. I am so thankful I had made the decision to get a dog in October 2019. In lockdown, isolation, and injury Zoey was my saving grace. Getting out to walk her was a sanity keeper, but not being able to walk her was kind of tough […]
