Cumberland Volunteer Tour

It didn’t take long after my visit to Cumberland Island National Seashore to contact their volunteer coordinator Pauline to sign up for volunteering. I will be working out on the island manning the Sea Camp Ranger Station a couple days a week.

To educate me about the island (so I can answer visitor questions) another volunteer, Brad Bond, offered to get a 4 wheel drive pickup and take me around the island to see the sites. Cumberland is 18 miles long so it’s not  viable to walk it up and down in a day, although backpackers hike up 15 miles to camp at Brickhill Bluff.

Below are the pictures of the great day I had with Brad. He’s a lot of fun so the whole day was fun. The only down side was a ferocious number of yellow fly swarms. There were places neither of us would get out of the truck. I’ve suffered yellow fly bites and they’re horrible!
