Dallas to Vallecito – WINDY!

The trip from Dallas to Vallecito ended up taking forever. I had to delay in Dallas a day because of high wind. On the road to Amarillo the conditions were far windier than I like and at one point I felt the truck and trailer go out of control and an emergency light flashed on the instrument panel showing a vehicle swerve. A short time later I pulled into a rest area to let my heart rate and blood pressure return to normal and pulled out the owners manual and looked up the emergency light. It’s the traction control light and it warns you that one of the tires is no longer in contact with the pavement! My story is that a gust of wind hit me so hard it lifted at least the truck, and maybe the trailer.

Needless to say when I arrived in Amarillo I delayed until the wind was better. I had checked where I was heading in Bernalillo, NM and they were expecting 60-65 MPH winds. I stayed 3 nights until the wind dropped.

I stayed at the Amarillo Ranch RV Park. It was close to the highway so convenient, but an unspectacular park. The offered free rides to the the Steak House so I did go over there one evening. Other than that it was very windy and kind of boring.

Stayed the last night at Coronado campground in Bernalillo. It’s a nice city park, but charges $10 to make a reservation. The women’s bathroom was gross in my opinion, but I would overnight here again. There were a couple other RV places in town. Shuttle rides were offered to the casino down the street and I had a very decent taco dinner there for a reasonable price.
