Rockwood A128S Camper

There was finally a couple day break in the weather so I loaded up the dogs for the trip up to Toledo to pick up the camper.

Well, almost a break in the weather. I got up Monday morning to let the dogs out and was greeted by hard rain. By the time we pulled out of the drive at 7:00 it had stopped and while it was cloudy almost all the way north it didn’t rain. The mountains were laced with tendrils of clouds and fog so it was a beautiful drive.

I arrived at the dealer to find someone working on installing the outside screen room and got involved in that — since I wanted it done correctly.

Then I was abruptly pulled off that for a rushed walk through on how the camper works. I was told the guy doing the walk through had to get done with me quickly so he could work on his wife’s camper. ??? That gave me a pretty good idea of how important I was as a customer.

I left at closing time to head to west Toledo to get pictures of the high school I’d attended and the house I’d lived in from the ages of 5 to 18. After that I figured the dogs needed a break so we did a cruise through a Petsmart where I bought them some treats and a new toy. While standing at the checkout I discovered that shopping at that store comes with a free gift — fleas. I couldn’t believe it when I looked down and saw both of my previously flealess dogs had fleas on their backs. Arghhhh…

I stupidly had stopped at Tim Horton’s for a coffee on the way to west Toledo. Despite the fact I was pretty darn tired (it had been a long day) it was probably 3:00 AM before I finally got to sleep. About the time the birds started singing and kept me awake.

I was up at 6:30 and barely functional. Back to Tim Horton’s and this time I really needed the coffee. I drove by the house on Raganwoods that my parents had built and got back to the dealership to take the dogs for a long walk before the they opened at 9:00. There were customers everywhere, everyone was busy and no one would answer my questions.

The one person who would help me was the guy who worked the rental counter. He was the one who was installing the screen room the day before. He towed my trailer through the packed lot and helped me get hooked up. I was on the road south by 11:30.

I was way too tired to drive the full 7 hours back to Tennessee. I found a campground on the GPS that was located on the loop around Cincinnatti and programmed it into the GPS. It led me right to it — the corporate office for the campground chain. Not a campsite in sight.

Back to the high way and into Kentucky. I spotted a sign for South Cincinatti Campground and saw that it was a Good Same Campground. I fervently hoped it wasn’t a dump.

The campground and the people were really nice. I told them I was a newbie with a brand spanking new camper that I didn’t know how to back up yet. No problem. They had all pull-through sites. I asked if they sold food — they had the number for a place that would deliver pizza to my site. The man led me to the site with the golf cart and even stuck around to make sure I could get the camper up with no problem.

This is when I really started falling in love with the A128S. Push up the roof until it locks. Put up the wall with the door. Put up the non-door wall. Get the electrical cord out and plug it in. That’s it.

I grabbed the leashes and took the dogs for a walk around the lake.

The next morning I was up at 7:30. Fed the dogs, went to the bathhouse to clean up, took the dogs for a walk, packed up the camper and was on the road at 8:05. I couldn’t believe how easy it was.

We were going to get home before noon so I decided there was time for a side trip to Cumberland Falls State Park.
